October 16, 2008 - Visitor’s Center/Gilchrist

Called to Order at: 12:10 with Linda Barron, President, presiding

 

Members/Guests Present: Linda Barron, Tina Miller, Herb Romey, Judy Scally, Barbara Sullivan, Carol Goevelinger, Kerry Ellington & Kristy Chancellor

Prior Minutes: Linda asked that one correction be made: In the paragraph where  Barb motioned to pay Tina Miller $49.99/month, that it should also show that Judy Scally seconded. Barb motioned to accept the minutes with this one correction and Tina Miller seconded.

Treasurer’s Report:  Barb read the Treasurer’s Report.  It was motioned by Kristy Chancellor to accept, and Linda Barron Seconded.

Correspondence: Bank Statement, Oregon Events Calendar, Judy received info asking if we want to list any events in the calendar. Judy motioned for Linda to contact them to do the $35 size ad. Kerry Ellington seconded and all were in favor.

Bills Approved:  Rent, signs, insurance, web service, Candidates Forum Night, start up costs for the Visitor’s Center, and Tina for the month of October.  Also, postage, and the BINGO night expenses.

AGENDA:  

  1. (1)    Candidates Forum:  October 23rd It will take place at the Banquet Room of the Gilchrist Family Restaurant.  It will be $40/hour and $2 a head for coffee & cookies.  Barb Sullivan  motioned to accept the cost of the Candidates Night at the Banquet Room, Kerry Ellington seconded. Linda sent out a letter to see who will be in attendance from the County.  Ron Gilman will attend, Mr Elliott would be sending someone in his place. Barb will meet the mediator at 4:30 P.M. The Flyer says the meeting begins at 5:30. Linda said she could have her balloon machine at the Visitor’s Center. People will be asked to write their questions on a 3x5 card and the mediator will read them. There should be a sign in sheet for people and that will be a good way to track the head count for coffee/refreshments. Judy said she will do the sign-in sheet and hand out the 3x5 cards. Barb will ask Rick to post on the Reader Board.
  2. (2)    Visitor’s Center Opening:  We all agree that it looks great!  Very inviting.
    1. a.)     Tina submitted a job description, as she was asked at our last meeting.
    2. b.)    Treasurer, Barb Sullivan and Tina will submit to Kristy the report to send to Travel Klamath.
    3. c.)    Tina put a list together for the businesses to pick-up brochures. She will give Kristy the order forms showing what is received.
    4. d.)    We need to contact a locksmith to create a way to lock the cabinet in the Vis.Ctr.
    5. e.)    Judy suggested the Grand Opening for our Visitors’ Center be scheduled from 12:00-4:00 on November 28th, the same day as the Christmas Tree Lighting.  It should be advertised. Linda said that Wise Buys & the Frontier with the information. Judy will give info to Bill Scally for the radio.

    1. f.)     There was a discussion regarding having a Debit Card for the Chamber.  Carol Goevelinger motioned for the Board approval for a debit card for Barb Sullivan & Linda Barron; Kerry Ellington seconded the motion, and all Board members agreed.  Let it be stated in these minutes that it was unanimous in favor of a Debit Card for Barb Sullivan, Treasurer, and Linda Barron, President.
    2. g.)    Tina Miller spoke with Susan Dodge, window painter, to paint a winter scene on the windows of the Visitors’ Center.  Linda Barron motioned to proceed with it, and Carol Goevelinger seconded, all were in Favor.  Herb Romey spoke up and said he will donate the $75 towards window decorating.

 

  1. (3)    Gilchrist Christmas Lighting:  It will take place on November 28th. It involves a Tree lit in front of the mall, Christmas Carols being sung, then everyone goes into the Banquet Room for Chili & Meatball Soup. Santa will be there for the children and gifts for them.

 

  1. (4)    Upcoming Events:
    1. a.)    November 28th – 29th is Art of the Heart Artisans in the old Supermarket of the Gilchrist Mall.  This is the same day as the Gilchrist Christmas Lighting, and the Grand Opening of the Visitor’s Center.  It was suggested that we extend an invitation to Travel Klamath for our Grand Opening.
    2. b.)    Bingo Fundraiser:  We should have another one in February.  It was decided to go with February 14th, a Saturday, from 12-4 and make it a Sweetheart Bingo on Valentine’s Day. It was discussed that we could have hot dogs, nachos, hot apple cider, hot chocolate & coffee and maybe chocolate cupcakes/cake.
  1. (5)    Membership/Renewal Report:
      1. a)      At present, membership is $60/year…let’s keep it low for another year.
      2. b)      A suggestion was made for Linda Barron, as president, to have a letter go out with the membership renewals, telling in the letter all the accomplishments that the Chamber has don

President’s Comments:  It was brought up that John Bambi has accepted a job elsewhere, and that this coming January will be his last time to head up the Chemult Sled Dog Race, and unless someone else steps up, it will be the last time that it will take place at all. It is slated for the 3rd week in January.

Regular Meeting July 17, 2008 at the Crescent Lake Lodge


Called to Order at: 12:20 with Linda Barron, President, presiding

 

Members/Guests Present: Linda Barron, Trish Evinger, Duenna Casebier, Tina Miller, Herb Romey, Barbara Sullivan, Sara Cambreleng, Bob Cambreleng, Kerry Ellington, Kathy Altman, Diane Davidson & Kristy Chancellor

Treasurer’s Report:   Presented by Barbara Sullivan, and approved.

Receipts Acknowledged:  None

AGENDA:    (1) Chamber Bingo/Silent Auction Fundraiser

        We need revenue…that’s the purpose of this fundraiser. Tina said we’ll have hot dogs,    

        Nachos, and root beer floats. We need prizes, items for silent auction & baked goods for the

        Bake sale.

        We need volunteers for Friday night to set-up: Trish, Kathy & Kristy volunteered from 4-6

        P.M. and for Saturday at 3:30 at the Community Center several people volunteered to help

        Set-up. Kerry will inquire with someone to be the Bingo caller. The final Bingo prize is $50

        Each card is $.25  Everything should be collected (prizes) in the next 3 weeks. They can be

        Dropped off at the Gilchrist Real Estate Office.

        We are planning on having a membership table to promote businesses.

        (2) Brochure:  The watercolor map is at the printers’: 5,000 for $872.00 allows 25 per

        business.

  1. (3)    The Visitor’s Center Grant to Klamath County:  A copy of the budget for NKCCC & the

Letter that was sent to Dawnn Brown at the Klamath Co. Tourism was passed out. We did not sign the lease at the current Visitor’s Center location…we’re waiting to see if we receive

Funds from Klamath Co. Tourism.

New Business: (1) Regarding the Flagpoles for American Flags for each community; we need 30

        Per town.  Because we can’t really do anything with them this late in the year, it was left on

        The table for another discussion.

        (2) There is a 100 mile Garage Sale in the works for our community. It was motioned by

        Diane Davidson for NKCCC to be involved to help promote it, Kristy seconded.

President’s Comments:

 

Announcements:  The next meeting will be held at the Community Center on August 21st, 2008.  

                            It was suggested as a possibility to pre-order food per individual from the Little

                            River Bar & Grill for the meeting.

Regular Meeting May 15 at the Banquet Room in Gilchrist, OR

Called to order at: 12:07 P.M. by Linda Barron, President

Members/Guests Present: Shelli Cowlbeck, Linda Barron, Kyle Kirchner, Terri Anderson, Kate Marquez, Tina Miller,  Herb Romey, Judy Scally, Steven Stroot, Richard Kehr, Scott Seuter, Cindy Deas, Dawnn Brown, Michael Justin, Renee Kapp, Barbara Sullivan, Bruce Hall, Carol Goevelinger, Sally Murray, Michael Ayers, Kerry Ellington, Robin Gyorgyfalvy, Kristy Chancellor.

New Business:  Linda introduced Steve Stroot, who is running for Klamath County Sheriff.  He explained how he plans on running the department as the Klamath Co. Sheriff.

Linda Barron then turned the floor over to Nancy Craven & Linda Swearingen who gave us an update on the Resort.  The plan is to submit the permits by August. With no appeals, they would be able to break ground by Spring, 2009.  The resort would start with 2 entrances off the Crescent Cut-off Road, and eventually one off of Hwy 97 just north of Gilchrist.

Receipts Acknowledged: a few new memberships

Old Business: (1) Linda Barron said that the map that Mary Lou Wilhelm is painting, the first 1000 is going to cost $500. It’s important that your membership be turned in by May 24th in order to get on the map.
(2) Mike Ayers is our new Vice President
(3) May 24th from 1-3 is the ice cream social for the Diamond Peaks Neighborhood Watch taking place at the Fire Dept. At Crescent Lake: let’s all try to support our neighbors!

At this point in the meeting, the floor was given to Cindy Deas, who explained that the KLMS has been around since 1991 (They produce the Tear-Off maps, & The Birding Trail Brochure)
She then introduced Robin Gyorgyfalvy, who is involved with the Scenic Byway Map.
Then Cindy introduced Kate Marquez, with the Klamath County Grants. These grants are awarded to promote events that bring overnight guests in Klamath County.
Bruce Hall is the No. Klamath Representative for this and can meet here in our area so you don’t have to travel to Klamath Falls.

Cindy introduced Rick Kerr with Winema National Forest, who spoke of the Byway that starts at Diamond Lake Jct. And goes south into California. He also said that they have received a grant to build a train station in Chemult, which could possibly be built this summer, to include restroom facilities.
Cindy then introduced Mr. Michael Justin with the Crater Lake National Park.
Cindy then introduced Dawnn Brown of the Travel Klamath Tourism Dept.; she discussed the marketing plan that she handed out.
